A Guide to Horseshoe Bend in Arizona
Horseshoe Bend is a very unique and impressive canyon of the Colorado River in Page, Arizona. It’s a 1,000 ft deep cliff in the shape of a horseshoe that connects to the Grand Canyon. What I was surprisingly blown away by were the rock formations you’re surrounded by at the lookout point!
GETTING THERE
Horseshoe Bend is located in Page, Arizona near the border of Utah. There is a designated parking lot where you’ll be required to pay a $10 entrance fee for standard cars.
DIFFICULTY
It’s an easy walk from the parking lot to the outlook point as the entire trail is paved. There is a slight incline on the way back to the parking lot.
LENGTH & TIME
The hike is 1 mile roundtrip and doesn’t take much time. The walk from the car to the overlook is about 10-15 minutes and can take up to 20 minutes on the way back. The great thing about Horseshoe Bend is that you don’t need much time to visit. Expect to spend roughly one hour total there, which includes spending time at the overlook to enjoy the view.
TRAIL DETAILS
There aren’t any trees throughout the trail, so the entire hike is in the sun. There are 2 shaded bench areas along trail, but there isn’t any shade at the outlook.
GEAR
Any type of comfortable sneakers will be fine for this hike.
WHAT TO BRING
In the summer months, be sure to take plenty of water with you. Although the hike is short, it’s in direct sun and can cause heat exhaustion.
ADDITIONAL TIPS
If you’re visiting in the summer, I’d recommend visiting in the morning or evening to avoid the heat. I visited mid-day and almost had a heatstroke in the short period I was there.
Dogs are allowed on this trail, but be mindful when visiting in the summer as the pavement gets very hot.
