1. Bermondsey Beer Mile

Although London is typically known for its pubs, the microbrewery scene has been on the rise and Bermondsey Beer Mile is the ultimate beer lover’s destination. It consists of several independent taprooms and distilleries lined up under a mile-long stretch of railway arches – a local treasure away from the city’s main tourist attractions. Saturdays are the best day to visit when most of the bars are open. You can try working your way from one end to the other, or just check out a few spots along the way. Swing by Marquis for quality beer that’s made in their brewery across the street. Check out this site for an unofficial guide of breweries on the route.

2. The Natural History Museum at a South Kensington

I know what you’re thinking… This must be an obvious London attraction, but it’s surprisingly not in most travel guides! The museum is free admission and located in one of the most stunning and impressive buildings. Aside from the extensive amount of artifacts on display, the architecture alone makes it worthwhile. Around the building’s exterior are several intricately carved animals. Inside, a large blue whale hangs from the ceiling, which is covered in panels that depict over 100 species of plants.

3. The Mayflower Pub

Not too far from Bermondsey Beer Mile is The Mayflower Pub. It’s one of London’s oldest bars and located on the River Thames, overlooking where the Mayflower set sail from. That’s right, as in the Mayflower that sailed the ocean blue. It is the quintessential English pub with an old-time ambience. The bar is rich with history and has a great selection of beer on tap.

4. Neal’s Yard

This hidden alley is full of character and tucked away in the center of the city. The quaint and colorful corner is home to a handful of family-owned restaurants, cafes, wine bars, and businesses. While you’re there, also check out Dishoom up the street for some of the best Indian food.
